Foster Grandparents

There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child realize his or her potential

Lutheran Life Villages has long understood the value of intergenerational engagement. For a young person, there can be no substitute for the wisdom, encouragement, and support that comes from a positive relationship with their Elders. For an Elder, there is nothing more rewarding than helping a child realize his or her potential. This is why Lutheran Life Villages sponsors the Fort Wayne Foster Grandparent program.

Foster Grandparents are volunteers who serve as role models, mentors, and friends to young, low-income children at risk of falling behind in school. Forming nurturing relationships, Foster Grandparents help the children they work with learn to read, provide one-on-one tutoring and guide them at critical times in their lives.

This unique program not only enriches the lives of children, but also benefits its volunteers as well. Volunteers experience a real sense of accomplishment, stay active and involved in the greater Fort Wayne community and form bonds with their fellow volunteers.

Interested in making a real difference in a young child’s life? The Foster Grandparent program is open to those ages 55 or older. A higher education background isn’t required, just the willingness to share your love, time and experience.
