We have had a wonderful summer with volunteers! New volunteers have come into all of our campuses looking to spend their extra free time with our residents in a selfless and meaningful way. It’s been great to witness, and we are excited to see what the fall brings!
The time has come yet again for annual Volunteer Mantoux testing! We are hoping to catch all active volunteers on one of the two following dates:
If you wish to remain an active volunteer, we need an updated test from you this month. If you have questions, or need to schedule another time/location to have your test administered, please contact Kevin Naber at 447-1591 x2116 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you very much!
1932, was an important year in the life of Lutheran Homes Incorporated Auxiliaries. In an article written in November of that year by Chaplain Martin F. Kretzmann he noted that “the ladies of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kendallville, Indiana, assisted by some others, have done much sewing for the home.” That was only a year after the first resident entered the home. This same caring for the quality of life for our residents was continued when the Fort Wayne Home was built in 1965. Many of the ladies, helped clean the residents rooms in preparation for the opening of the home.
This was the start of caring for the residents in our homes, and it would lead to the founding of the auxiliaries in both Kendallville and in Fort Wayne. Much has changed since then, yet much is the same, the need for caring and committed workers for Christ still exists.
It was not, however, until 8 years later in 1940, that a formal auxiliary was formed in Kendallville, and 33 years later, in 1965, while the Kendallville Auxiliary celebrated its 25th anniversary, our Fort Wayne Auxiliary was formed, and 3 years ago, in 2015, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. So, we can say Happy Birthday this year to the Lutheran Home Auxiliary. Happy 53rd birthday Lutheran Life Villages Auxiliary, or maybe even historically, Happy 86th Birthday for the caring work our auxiliary’s have done and still do for residents of our homes.
1 Corinthians 3:9 is the auxiliary theme for the coming year: “For we are God’s Fellow Workers; you are God’s field, God’s building”. We are, as we help care for our residents, fellow workers in God’s Kingdom, doing service to Him, while serving our residents. One of those ways is “to do”, for God’s Children, to those who live here. We are fellow workers with God, who guides and leads us as we listen to Him, and do His work here at Lutheran Life Villages.
Like those ladies from St. John’s who started out by sewing for the residents, and our ladies here from many churches who started by cleaning rooms, we have the opportunity to do likewise, as we have done in the past. So, let us follow their lead, and continue to serve our residents in as many ways as possible, that in their later life they have a better quality of life. With that thought in mind, we begin our 54th year in the life of Lutheran Life Villages Auxiliary, with our annual Congregational Kick Off. We therefore continue our goal to serve the residents and their care givers for both their physical and spiritual well being.
As Auxiliary members, I THANK YOU so very much for your service to the residents whose home this is.
