Collaboration to Grow Alzheimer’s and Dementia Adult Day Services

Lutheran Life Villages, a faith-based non-profit provider of retirement living services, announced today the merger of Lutheran Life Villages Homecare with Birchwood Inc, a not-for-profit provider of services for those with dementia and respite for their caregivers.

As a result of this merger, Lutheran Life Villages will further strengthen its comprehensive offering of services to seniors in Northeast Indiana.  The Village at Birchwood, as it will be named, was built and opened in 2013.  Located at 8151 Glencarin Blvd just west of I-69 off Illinois Rd, it will operate together with Lutheran Life Villages Home Care to expand community-based services offered in Northeast Indiana.

Jill Nichols, Birchwood Inc. board member and capital campaign chair shared, “When Barbara Baekgaard joined my husband and me in the effort to build and design a beautiful new facility, our vision was so much more than just a building.  We hoped that Birchwood would not only be an outstanding daycare but would also be a resource for families through their journey with Alzheimer’s and other forms of memory loss.   We are so excited that the merger with Lutheran Life Villages is going to provide our community with the quality and range of services that will help meet the growing needs of families in our area.”

“We are honored and extremely thankful to the Birchwood board of directors for entrusting Lutheran Life Villages to continue to expand the services offered at Birchwood.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our organization to expand the reach of our mission to serve a growing number of individuals and their caregivers who benefit from our services,” said Alex Kiefer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Life Villages.  “Adult day services fills a gap between in-home services offered by our Homecare division and residential based services at our three campuses in Kendallville and Fort Wayne.”

The transaction is slated for completion June 1, 2014.
