Recently, the Village at Birchwood was chosen to participate in a research study with the University of Minnesota and John Hopkins University. The study will help to implement a program called Adult Day Care Plus. Of the 70 Adult Day Centers that applied to be part of this research, we were among the 30 selected.
Participant’s families will receive periodic phone calls during the five-year study to assess improvements in caregiver stress and support. Once the study is over, The Village at Birchwood will collaborate with the University of Minnesota to implement the program based on research results.
This study will allow Lutheran Life Villages to continue to develop and enhance meaningful, enriching memory care programs. Lutheran Life Villages’ Zachary Project aims to reset the standard for person-centered care practices for those living with dementia and their caregivers. The Zachary Project is a comprehensive, proactive approach to care, training and outreach grounded in accredited, evidence-based programming. It involves not only programs for clients and their families, but is also designed to engage and educate the greater community.
